Why is the Quran in Arabic?

Why is the Quran in Arabic?

Which other language if not Arabic?

God Almighty sent revelations to all His Prophets, like the Torah to Moses, the Psalms to David, the Gospel to Jesus and the Qur’aan as the last and final revelation to Muhammad ﷺ the last and final prophet – peace be upon them.

All the prophets were chosen from amongst their own people to deliver the message. The books revealed to each prophet were in the language of the people to whom they were revealed.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an Arab.

If the Qur’aan had been sent down to him (peace be upon him) in any another language, he would not have understood it. How could he have explained something as a prophet that he could not understand himself?

Could it have been possible for a prophet who was appointed to convey and explain a book that he could not even understand himself?

Imagine Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) receiving the Torah in an unknown language and then having to pass it onto the children of Israel.

Allah says in the glorious Qur’aan, (the meaning of which is):

“We sent not a messenger except to teach in the language of his own
people, in order to make things clear to them” (Quran 14:4)

“Had We sent this Qur’aan in a language other than Arabic, they would
have said, why are not its verses explained in detail? What! A Book not
in Arabic and a Messenger an Arab?” (Quran 41:44)

It is the choice of Almighty God that He chose his last prophet (peace be upon him)
to be an Arab and the last and final revelation to be in Arabic.

However, these statements in no way indicate that the Qur’aan was only meant for the Arabs. The Qur’aan is a universal message for all of mankind.

Today, millions of people have memorized the Qur’aan from cover to cover. It has
been easily memorized even by people who do not speak Arabic as their mother tongue, and even by those who do not speak the language at all.

The Arabic text has been fully preserved and now it has also been translated into almost all other major languages.

So why Arabic?

The most straightforward answer to the question is this: The Quran is in Arabic because it addressed an Arabic-speaking population when it was first revealed. Perhaps the same question would be asked no matter in what language the Qur’aan was sent down.

Submit to Allah.
